Before spinning a wrench, a Master Technician must verify the customer’s concern via standardized testing or road tests. When dealing with engine diagnostics, look for structural fluid leaks (fuel, oil, coolant). Use mechanical isolation techniques to separate an engine mechanical noise from common subsystem failures, such as a failing alternator bearing or a cracked torque converter flexplate. Excessive consumption of oil or coolant often correlates to distinct exhaust symptoms: blue smoke reveals oil consumption, whereas thick white exhaust smoke signals internal cooling system leaks.
